Om museet

Near Hurlach lies one of the largest Late Bronze Age burial fields in Bavaria. The finds recovered there date from around 1300 to 700 BC and range from the Late Bronze Age into the early La Tène period. Thanks to the commitment of the then mayor and in cooperation with the excavation director, the municipal museum was founded in 2004; the permanent exhibition was opened on June 29, 2004 by the Bavarian Minister of Science.

Today the museum is housed in the Haus der Begegnung next to the municipal library. One display room shows roughly 3,000-year-old gold, bronze and ceramic finds, including tools, bronze and iron chisels, jewelry, costume elements of gold, urns, bronze weapons, and everyday objects such as combs and scrapers of bronze and bone. A reconstruction of a cremation grave illustrates the burial customs of the time, and graphics and images document the work of the archaeologists. Further finds are stored in a central depot.
