Om museet
The Arrestturm was built in the mid-14th century at the tip of the shield-shaped old town of Spalt. From 1890 to 1935 it served as a prison tower, mainly for hop pickers who had committed offenses; they were then taken to the Justizvollzugsanstalt (correctional facility) in Roth.
Since 1979 the tower has housed a small museum of the Heimatverein (local heritage association) under the name Heimatstuben. It shows rural tools and everyday objects, a Spalt butterfly collection, Flecklas masks, hop seals and models of hop gardens from 1900 and 1975. A display documents the prizes that Spalt hops won at world exhibitions, and photos show work in the hop garden around 1930. The original arrest cell has been preserved, and from the tower there is a view over the old town.
