Om museet
Rosenfeld was for a long time a Württemberg district town, and the Fruchtkasten served there as the lordly grain store. Duke Eberhard im Bart ordered its construction in 1495, but the stone building was not completed until under Duke Christoph, before 1556. In times of need, the authorities handed out stored grain to the population from here.
After Rosenfeld lost its district office to Sulz in 1808, and potato cultivation had improved the food supply, the granary lost its original purpose. In the 19th century townspeople used it for other things. In 1956 Helmut Sülzle and his brother-in-law Heinrich Blickle bought the building from the state; since 1977 it has belonged to the Sülzle family alone, who at times stored goods from their hardware store there.
Since May 1982 the Heinrich-Blickle-Museum has been on view here. It shows Blickle's private collection of more than 130 cast-iron stove plates, which were cast from the end of the 15th century onward. Woodcarvers, including well-known artists, made the models, which were pressed into a bed of sand, so that whole series were produced. Models were lent between foundries, and finished plates were occasionally copied. The pieces come from southern Germany, the Eifel, Hesse-Nassau, the Netherlands and France, and mainly show biblical scenes, historical events and coats of arms.
