Om museet
The Protestant church of St. Gumbertus stands in the village center of Westheim, a district of Illesheim, within a walled churchyard. Its origins go back to the Middle Ages; some building parts date from the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. In 1733 it received its present appearance in the style of the Ansbach margraviate period, with a pulpit altar; the ceiling paintings were added in 1888.
In 1987, a small museum of church history was set up in the church. It displays art objects and everyday objects from the local church history of the sixteenth to the twentieth century, including church furnishings, grave goods, paintings, historic seals, books, liturgical vessels and documents on the building's history.
Particularly worth seeing are a painting of the Last Judgment from the first half of the seventeenth century, on which Martin Luther appears among the saints, and one of the few surviving Protestant confessionals.
