Om museet

Sculptor Erich Hauser (1930–2004) lived and worked from 1969 on a former saltworks site on the edge of Rottweil. Together with the Stuttgart architect Hans Lutz, he created an ensemble of art, architecture and nature there. To preserve his life's work, he founded the Kunststiftung Erich Hauser in 1996, which still looks after the site and runs its educational programs today.

The sculpture park of about 33,000 square meters displays around 70 sculptures from all phases of his work, from the 1960s up to his last sculpture, the Lebensbogen. Further works can be seen in the Schwarzes Haus, in the Wohn-Pyramide and in the exhibition rooms. In the park, experimental music by Stephan Micus can be heard, which Hauser commissioned specifically for the site.

The foundation also holds Hauser's private art collection of about 300 works, mostly paintings from the late 1950s to the present, with a focus on Informel and artists of the Zero movement. The foundation uses the workshop hall for exhibitions, awards the Werkstattpreis to young sculptors and offers an artist-in-residence program. The houses and the collection can only be visited on guided tours on a few open Sundays.
