Lambertsmühle
Working water mill from 1766 in the Wiehbachtal near Burscheid with a mill museum, weaving room, old workshops and farmhouse garden.
Om museet
For centuries the Lambertsmühle was the banal mill (a mill that local tenants were obliged to use) of the manor Haus Landscheid; the farmers on the associated lands had to have their grain ground here. It is said to owe its name to a man named Lambert, born around 1570, who lived in the mill with the permission of the lords of Landscheid. In 1751 the last tenant bought the property, which a few years later passed to the miller Philipp Klein. After a fire in February 1766, the mill was rebuilt immediately and received its present form; a sandstone inscription above the entrance door commemorates this.
In the 19th and 20th centuries, several families ran the mill as a mill bakery. The bakery was abandoned in 1942, and grinding continued until December 1956. In 1983 the property was placed under monument protection, and the last owner bequeathed it to the town of Burscheid on the condition that a museum be set up there.
The town accepted the inheritance in 1994, after citizens had come together to form a friends' association, which was founded in January 1995. The association took over preservation and museum operations and carried out the restoration with more than 50,000 volunteer hours and grant funding. Today the ensemble of mill, stable, coach house and barn shows the working grinding mechanism, the museum "Vom Korn zum Brot" (From Grain to Bread), a weaving room, old workshops and a farmhouse garden; events are held regularly in the former stable.
