Om museet
The Fränkisches Hopfenmuseum belongs to the Heimat- und Geschichtsverein Neunkirchen am Sand (local heritage and history association), founded in 1990. It is housed in a former barn in the village district of Speikern, where the association set up its exhibition and continues to expand it.
The lower floors show hop growing in the Hersbruck Mountains (Hersbrucker Gebirge), from cultivation and care through harvest to processing, using numerous historical and more recent tools. Two further floors show rural life in earlier times and the history of the municipality. Every year in September, the Hopfenfest (hop festival) takes place on the museum grounds. The house is open only during the summer season; groups can arrange guided tours.
