Om museet

The museum opened in 1976 for the thousand-year celebration of Queidersbach. It is housed in the old schoolhouse built in 1836, which also serves as the town hall; in the 19th century, when the village still had no church of its own, the small bell in the roof turret took on many tasks in village life. At first the exhibition was under the roof; after the school moved out, the two former classrooms were added, later a room on the ground floor and the loft of the neighbouring works depot. For decades the driving force was the restorer Alois Schneider; since 1994 a supporters' circle has helped run the museum.

The collection is based mainly on donations from Queidersbach and neighbouring villages. Because it increasingly reflects the whole region, the museum has been called Museum Sickinger Höhe since 2000. It sees itself as a museum for the landscape between Landstuhl, Bann, Linden and Krickenbach and spans the period from prehistory to the recent past.

Focal points are the manorial farm of Hornbach Abbey, the resettlement of the Sickinger Land after the Thirty Years' War, the agrarian reforms from the 18th century, school history and the former open-air theatre. On display are finds from Celtic and Roman times, evidence of the Sickingen lordship, a coin collection, historic living rooms and workshops of local craftsmen.
