Om museet
The Städtische Galerie Neunkirchen is run by the Neunkircher Kulturgesellschaft gGmbH and has presented a multimedia program of contemporary art since 1991. Three to four temporary exhibitions take place each year, featuring artists from Germany and many other countries; at the same time the house sees itself as a forum for artists from the region.
In December 2015 the gallery moved into new premises in the former Bürgerhaus, which had been converted into the KULT.Kulturzentrum. At around 500 square meters, the space is more than twice the size of the earlier rooms in the neighboring older building. The seven-meter-high main hall is suitable for exhibitions of any format; excerpts from the collection are shown on the glazed gallery above it.
The collection was built up mainly through donations: the Neunkirchen art historian Wolfgang Kermer gave the gallery around 300 works on paper between 2005 and 2010, including works from the circle of the Stuttgart and Karlsruhe academies and graphic cycles by the Expressionist Fritz Arnold. Added to this is the 2008 donation by the painter Ruth Engelmann-Nünninghoff, which was expanded in 2024. Since August 2023 the KKM Keramik Kunst Museum has also been located in the same building.
