About the museum
The Alpineum in Hinterstoder opened in 1998 and is devoted to the history and culture of the Stodertal valley at the foot of the Totes Gebirge. The house was designed as an interactive museum and in 2000 received an international award as one of the most original exhibition venues in Europe.
The exhibition follows three themes: the dangerous work of the lumberjacks in the mountains, the mountaineering exploration of the Totes Gebirge and the development of skiing from its beginnings to the World Cup.
Videos, sound effects and interactive stations, including a downhill simulator, bring the themes to life in a vivid and varied way.
