About the museum

The Gallhuberhof is a four-sided farmstead (Vierkanthof) in the Traunviertel between Steyr and St. Florian, first mentioned as early as 1180. Today the farm houses two museums on a site of around 8,000 square metres, of which about 2,800 square metres is exhibition space.

The first part shows historic hand tools, farmhouse furniture, carriages, tableware, traditional costumes and everyday objects of rural culture and early crafts. The second part is devoted to the technology and motorisation of agriculture: from the first tilling implements and combine harvesters to the development of the Steyr tractors.

The halls hold threshing machines, automobiles, a Waffenrad bicycle, historic tractors and motorcycles. In total the collection comprises over 6,000 exhibits. The farm is run by the Sandmair family, who also operate a museum inn in the threshing floor and Heuriger taverns.
