About the museum

The manor farm east of Zistersdorf Castle dates architecturally to the 18th century and was greatly altered over time. Today the two-storey building houses, besides the museum, the music school, the scouts and an event hall.

The museum association, founded in 1979, initially collected in a room of the Old Town Hall. Under DI Friedrich Jahn, the municipality had rooms in the manor farm prepared in 1994; in autumn 1995 the first exhibition was shown in three rooms. After the renovation and the departure of the last tenants, the museum was expanded.

A separate room is devoted to the oil discoveries and oil production from the 1930s onwards, which were economically especially important for the town. The museum also shows bricks from different decades, as brick-making was an important mainstay in the first half of the 20th century. In the foyer, documents and architectural relics from the town's history are on display, and a museum cinema shows film footage from the past. Special exhibitions change regularly in two rooms. The museum is run by the Zistersdorf Museum Association.
