About the museum
After years of collecting, former mayor Sylvester Ebner opened the Heimatmuseum Ebenau in 1967. His successor Franz Höpflinger expanded it further with great craftsmanship. With the support of the municipality under Mayor Hermann Itzlinger, the building was later redesigned as the "Museum im Fürstenstöckl".
The focus is on products of the former Ebenau iron, copper and brass hammer works, displayed in glass cabinets. On view are forge hammers weighing hundreds of kilograms with forge and bellows, as well as ceremonial weapons of Archbishop Wolf Dietrich's bodyguard, flintlock and wheel-lock rifles and pillory rifles made at the Ebenau works.
The sacral part of the museum houses the municipal registry office. The local clubs and associations also present themselves with their centuries-long history, and there are rare exhibits from agriculture and forestry, hunting and national defence. The tour ends with an old primary-school classroom. As a souvenir, visitors receive a copper or brass coin with the museum motif, minted on site.
