About the museum

The Hundsmarktmühle in Thalgau-Egg dates from the 16th century and was first mentioned in 1570 as the "mill on the Gailnbach". Until 1940 it operated as a custom mill. In the building, which is now listed, the water-driven mill wheel, a complete milling run and a baking oven have been preserved.

In 1989 the market municipality of Thalgau bought the property and renovated it. The result was a museum and at the same time a versatile event venue, which opened to the public in 1994. Today the Kultur- und Museumsverein Thalgau looks after the house.

The focus is on the theme "From Grain to Bread", with historic milling equipment in the mill room, a bakery and a wood-fired baking oven. Specially designed rooms document the local history of Thalgau; there are also a Swiss stone pine parlour and a miller's parlour. In the outdoor area there are a working marble ball mill, an old cider cellar, models of water wheels and a hand-crank well. The house, which lies on the circular hiking trail around Lake Fuschl, is also used for concerts, readings, art exhibitions and weddings.
