About the museum
The museum is housed in the former retirement house (Auszugshaus) of the Goiserer Mill and is run by the Bad Goisern local history association. The local history museum, on the first floor and in the attic, shows the history of the village and the culture of this Salzkammergut community; the Landler Museum was added on the ground floor in 1992.
Among the highlights is an originally preserved, fully furnished cobbler's room, where the making of the "Goiserer" is demonstrated – the sturdy footwear for foresters, hunters, woodcutters and mountaineers. Other topics include the shooting guild tradition, the Goiserer violins and the bonesetter Gottlieb Oberhauser. Particular attention is paid to the farmer and mayor Konrad Deubler (1814–1884), the "peasant philosopher", who made his library of around 1,400 volumes accessible to the public; his parlour was renovated and redesigned for his 200th birthday.
The Landler Museum tells of the Protestants deported to Transylvania in the 18th century, many of whom came from Goisern and the surrounding area. Around 350 original objects show the everyday and festive culture, church and school of the Landler, as well as their emigration after 1989/90. The themes of flight, being a stranger and integration are made tangible through a historical example.
