About the museum
The house in Oberwagram was built by the boatman and cottager Peter Pendlmayr and is first mentioned in 1796. In 1797 a fresco was painted on the street front showing a ship train with eight horses and three boats, together with horse riders, mooring hands and boatmen; the artist is unknown. The house later changed owners several times until the market municipality of Naarn bought it in 1989 to set up a local heritage house.
In 1992 the Heimathaus opened with an exhibition on log driving and rafting at Au an der Donau. In 2012 the cultural association FORUM Naarn was founded, which maintains the house and the local cultural heritage; the building and the ship-train fresco were restored, and a barn and a tool shed were built behind the house.
The exhibition is devoted to rafting and the floating of firewood on the Aist and recalls Au an der Donau as an important timber transshipment point. The tour also includes the parlour, the bedroom, the cellar and the tool shed with historic implements. A film about log driving and rafting is shown in the barn.
