About the museum
The local history museum of the town of Langenlois is located at Rathausstraße 9 and is run by volunteers. It sees itself as the town's "House of History" and comprises around 13 rooms.
It is particularly well known for its prehistoric collection with the largest mammoth tusk in Central Europe (3.34 metres). Further departments show middle-class life, crafts and guilds, and traditional viticulture. The sacred objects include house altars, box pictures and guild banners from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.
A film with stories from the town offers a virtual tour of the museum; it can also be viewed on a monitor on the ground floor and makes the highlights of the collection accessible to all.
