About the museum
The Ausstellungshaus Spoerri goes back to the Swiss artist Daniel Spoerri, a pioneer of Eat Art and companion of the Fluxus movement. In 2008 he acquired the so-called Hohenfurter-Haus on the main square of Hadersdorf am Kamp and had the former living quarters converted into exhibition rooms; the house has been used as an art house since 2009.
The building dates from the late 16th or early 17th century and originally belonged to Hohenfurt Abbey, which presumably used it as an administrative seat and farmstead. A Renaissance oriel with a triangular gable and a Mariahilf relief above the portal characterize the facade; later the house accommodated a pharmacy, among other things, and long served as a residential building. The property includes a spacious inner courtyard and a garden behind the barn.
In seasonal exhibitions that change every year, Spoerri's works are placed in relation to works by artist friends such as Jean Tinguely, Eva Aeppli, Roland Topor or François Morellet, often from private collections. Themes so far have included Fluxus, Eat Art, the multiple and Art Brut.
In the neighbouring house at Hauptplatz 16 there is a hall with Spoerri's frieze "Genetische Kette des Flohmarkts" (Genetic Chain of the Flea Market), a library with his cookbook collection, and the restaurant Esslokal.
