About the museum
The local museum is on the upper floor of the former town hall on the Hauptplatz of Weikertschlag, which was built in 1932 to plans by a master builder from Raabs and inaugurated in 1933. After the village was incorporated into Raabs an der Thaya in 1971, the building lost its administrative function. The museum opened there in 1994; it is run by a museum association.
The exhibition tells the local history from the first documentary mention of Weikertschlag in 1178 and presents life in the village. Surviving guild banners from 1818 to 1833 and old documents reaching back to the 16th century are on display, including the market charter of 1710 and the charter of privileges of 1660. There are also prehistoric finds. An attached museum barn shows equipment for farming, wheelwrighting and rope-making.
