About the museum

The display depot of the Museen der Stadt Linz shows a selection from the collection of the Nordico city museum, which comprises around 120,000 objects on cultural and urban history. It is located in the Tabakfabrik Linz, an architecturally significant industrial complex, in whose Behrens building cigarettes were produced until 2009. Today the factory is a workplace for art, culture, the creative industries and digitalization.

On around 360 square meters on the second floor of the storage building along the Behrens-Band, around 550 exhibits from art, applied arts, everyday life, crafts and industry are displayed closely packed, a deliberately staged attic effect that emphasizes the serial character of the collection. Objects and artworks related to the tobacco factory and its industrial and contemporary history form the common thread.

The depot can be viewed from outside via the Behrens-Band; QR codes on the windows lead to background information, videos and picture galleries. Those who want to see the rooms from inside can book a guided tour with the art and cultural education team. Visitors are also invited to submit their own everyday objects as drawings for the "gezeichnete Schaudepot" (drawn display depot).
