About the museum
The Steuermuseum MaRa grew out of an initiative by Linz tax advisor Markus Raml and opened in spring 2024 in the presence of the finance minister. According to the museum, it is the first museum in Central Europe devoted exclusively to taxes.
The exhibition is located in the rooms of the firm Raml und Partner on Museumstraße. Visitors therefore walk through the museum in the middle of the firm's ongoing business and get an impression of the work of a tax advisory practice. The tour explains what taxes are, how the tax system in Austria developed, and also shows curious taxes and levies of past times.
The topic can also be explored interactively with a mobile app, and visitors can test their knowledge. For upper secondary school classes (Sekundarstufe II) there is a preparation lesson; after the visit, the students receive a certificate of participation. In June 2024 the museum was added to the catalog of the Federal Ministry of Finance as a measure of the National Financial Education Strategy.
