About the museum

Schloss Feldegg lies outside Pram in the Innviertel and was rebuilt between 1589 and 1593 on the site of earlier castles. The three-storey rectangular building with a square tower and steep roof stands at the highest point of a gently rising park that leads down to a pond. In the 19th and early 20th centuries the owners changed frequently, and in 1913 demolition was even planned. In 1917 the art historian Alfred Walcher von Molthein acquired the castle and saved it from decay.

In 1964 Georg Hanreich bought the estate; for more than four decades the Hanreich family has taken care of its preservation and revival. On the ground floor, coats of arms, charters, documents, old pictures and furniture show the history of the estate and its architecture. According to the Association of Upper Austrian Museums, the rooms are accessible only with a guided tour.

In the park, a 36-metre-long history tent by the castle pond tells the story of Feldegg in the context of world history; it is freely accessible. A granary from Engelhartszell, built in 1726, has served since 1992 as the “Galerie im Troadkasten”, with changing exhibitions by Upper Austrian artists. A restoration workshop for historic furniture operates in the farm building. The castle is part of the Pramtal Museum Route.
