About the museum
The Brugs Biermuseum, now Bruges Beer Experience, is housed on the upper floors of the former post office building on the corner of the Markt and the Breidelstraat. The building was designed together with the Provinciaal Hof by architect Louis Delacenserie and came into use in 1891. The floors first housed the City Archives and federal services, until they became free and a private investor rented them to the museum's founders.
The vzw Biermuseum Brugge was founded in 2013; on 19 July 2014 the museum opened to the public. It should not be confused with the Brouwerijmuseum on the Walplein.
Visitors discover the world of beer in an interactive way: with a tablet and headphones, in ten languages and also in Flemish Sign Language, you follow the history of beer from the Mesopotamians, with particular attention to the brewing history of Bruges. You can smell, taste and touch the raw ingredients. The route covers, among other things, Trappist and abbey beers, beer styles, the brewing process, women and beer, and food pairing.
After the visit you can taste beer at the bar, with 16 draught beers and a view of the Market; the bar and shop are also freely accessible without a museum visit.
