About the museum

The Dalí exhibition in Bruges is housed in the Adornes Hall of the Stadshallen (Town Halls) on the Markt, in the building of the Belfry. The Belfry is one of the city's best-known monuments: an 83-metre tower, built from 1240, which was rebuilt after several fires and today forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. A carillon has been hanging in the tower since 1523.

The majestic hall was restyled by the company Dalí Universe, which organises Dalí exhibitions in cities all over the world, including Paris, Matera, Siena, Copenhagen, Sydney and Mexico City. The collection comes from one of the largest private collections of works by the Catalan artist. The works trace back to an Italian art dealer and collector with the surname Levi, who worked with Dalí in the 1960s.

The exhibition shows graphic works and sculptures, designs, sculptures in coloured glass (the Daum collection) and jewellery, all in a Dalinian setting with mirrors, gold and shocking pink. The common thread is the duality in Dalí's work, for example the contrast between the hard outside and the soft inside of snails and eggs. The works are described in the Catalogues Raisonnés of Dalí's oeuvre.
