About the museum
Camera Obscura Maldegem is a local film archive that has recorded the history of Maldegem, its sub-municipalities, parishes and residents since 25 February 1968. The first recording in the archive is a short film of the installation of Prince Guido I and his Vrolijk Annemieke on that date.
The archive was founded by Noël Ryheul, who also manages it. It works as a digital film diary under the titles “Maldegem, een dorp om in te wonen” and “Over mijn dorp, over de tijd van toen”. The website www.camob.be started on 30 September 2009.
Besides the film archive, Camera Obscura shows a collection of photographic equipment, film and figurines that take photographs. The collection thus tells the heritage of one hundred years of film and one hundred and fifty years of photography. The collection can only be visited on request.
