About the museum
Choco-Story is a chocolate museum in a 15th-century house on Sint-Jansplein, once a wine tavern (Huis De Croone). It is a private initiative of the Van Belle family, supported by chocolate manufacturer Belcolade, and shows a private collection of around a thousand objects.
In three parts, the visit follows 5,500 years of chocolate history, from the Maya and Aztecs to Europe today, with attention to the raw materials and production processes of the past and present. In the demonstration centre you can see how pralines are made and taste chocolate that is prepared on the spot.
Alongside the museum, Choco-Story organises chocolate workshops for individual visitors and groups. The lamp museum Lumina Domestica is housed in the building behind.
