About the museum

Lumina Domestica is a lamp museum in the centre of Bruges, on the Wijnzakstraat near the Sint-Jansplein. The museum shows the history of indoor lighting and how light in the home developed from torch and tallow lamp to light bulb and LED.

The collection comprises more than 6,000 antique objects, which the museum itself describes as the largest lamp collection in the world. A striking piece is a lamp made according to drawings by Leonardo da Vinci. The entrance to Lumina Domestica is in the neighbouring Choco-Story Museum. The Lumina Domestica website also links to Choco-Story and the Frietmuseum, with which combined tickets exist.
