About the museum
The Draaiorgelmuseum (barrel organ museum) in Voortkapel, a district of Westerlo, was founded around 2005 by collector Luc Peeters. He bought his first barrel organ as a young man at an event in the Netherlands; his collection then grew into a museum.
The collection includes street, café, fairground and dance organs, small barrel organs and numerous other mechanical musical instruments. There are organs from well-known firms such as Decap from Antwerp and Herentals, Mortier, Bursens, Limonaire and Verbeeck, including a Decap dance organ from 1968 and a Mortier orchestrion street organ from 1923. In addition there are musical boxes, a pianola from 1899, accordions, jukeboxes, gramophones and a large miniature of a fairground carousel.
During a visit the owner himself shows his collection with great enthusiasm. In a nostalgic atmosphere you can also have a drink, and by reservation there is a coffee table spread.
