About the museum
Art Center Hugo Voeten shows the private collection of entrepreneur and art collector Hugo Voeten (1940–2017). For more than forty years he built up an eclectic collection of over 1,700 works, Belgian and international. The collection is housed in two locations close to each other: the Art Center in Herentals and the Beeldentuin in Geel-Westerlo.
The Art Center is located in a former grain mill on the Kempens Kanaal. The industrial architecture still reveals its earlier use. The architects Wouter Bastijns and Barent Bulcke renovated the complex with respect for the original design and converted it into an art and exhibition space across nine levels. In April 2012 Hugo Voeten opened the Art Center.
The collection contains highlights of modern and contemporary art, with works by, among others, Panamarenko, Frans Masereel, Léon Spilliaert, Ciprian Muresan, Thierry De Cordier, Chiharu Shiota and Marlène Dumas. According to the city of Herentals, the collection also holds the largest collection of Bulgarian art outside Bulgaria. A visit is possible only by reservation, on set days and at set times.
