About the museum
The Euro Space Center opened its doors in June 1991 in Transinne, in the municipality of Libin, close to the centre of the European Space Agency in Redu. The idea arose from the wish of the Province of Luxembourg to make the most of this space heritage: a Europa rocket, first displayed near the Redu station, was moved to the site, and the project drew inspiration from the American “Space Camps” model. Since then the centre has been supported by the intercommunal IDELUX, the Province of Luxembourg and the Belgian federal authorities.
Over the years the offer has expanded: courses for young people, school stays, the founding in 1994 of the Euro Space Society under the patronage of Belgian astronaut Dirk Frimout, and new shows such as “A Space Odyssey” in 2000. A major renovation, launched in 2019 with a budget of about €13 million, reworked the route and added new attractions.
Today the “Journée du spationaute” (Astronaut Day) offers eleven immersive activities, from simulated walks on the Moon or Mars to the planetarium, including free-fall and rotation simulators. The Mars Explorer, presented as the latest novelty, completes the route. The site also hosts courses, birthday parties, school groups and corporate events.
