About the museum

The non-profit association Musée Pierre-Joseph Redouté was founded in Saint-Hubert on 7 June 1984. It aims to make known the painter-botanist born in the town on 10 July 1759, his family and the artists of his era who enriched the heritage of Saint-Hubert, the Ardennes and Luxembourg. In 1987, the town made available the building at Rue Redouté 11, opposite the site of the painter's birthplace, which was destroyed by a bomb at the end of the Second World War.

The museum permanently presents original works by the man nicknamed the “Raphael of flowers”, objects that belonged to him and some engravings by his younger brother Henri-Joseph. On the ground floor, a new display shows the original portraits of the last three abbots of Saint-Hubert and tells the story of the three Redouté brothers in Saint-Hubert and Paris. Upstairs, visitors rediscover Pierre-Joseph Redouté, roses and “rosomania” (the craze for roses).

The museum is moving towards a broader presentation of life in Saint-Hubert in the 18th and 19th centuries, in a more contemporary display.
