Mudia

Museum of playful art in Redu: more than 300 works, from the Renaissance to today, and some sixty interactive attractions.

Opening hoursAdmission €15.50 Wheelchair accessible Restaurant

About the museum

Mudia, short for Musée didactique d'art (Educational Art Museum), was born from the dream of a Belgian couple of collectors, Eric Noulet and Marie-Thérèse Toussaint. Passionate about museums, they regretted that their grandchildren got bored there quickly. They therefore imagined a place where you play, have fun and where everyone receives simple keys to enter the history of art. After a decade of preparation, the museum opened in 2018 in Redu, the book village of the Ardennes, in the municipality of Libin.

The building is the village's former presbytery, which was also a soap factory. The architects of the Atelier de La Grange kept its character, notably the beautiful wooden staircase, while enlarging it and adding a terrace. The museum presents more than 300 original works in chronological order, from the Gothic and Renaissance periods to contemporary art, across 20 rooms in which more than 50 artistic movements are represented: painting, drawing, sculpture, comics, photography and animated film.

Each room has playful terminals: animate Bosch's world, create a pointillist painting with a dot cannon, or pose as the model. An animated film, “Le Fleuve de l'Art” (The River of Art), and an audio guide designed for young visitors accompany the visit. The Mudia Café and the shop complete the offer. In 2026 the museum received the label for museums approved by and for children.
