About the museum
The museum goes back to the collection of Jos Palmers, who gathered objects on aviation and above all on the 31st Squadron of the 10th Wing. In 2004 he kept them in an old barn, where damp and large temperature swings threatened the collection. The commander of the 10th Wing then offered Hangar 140 on the base as a home.
In 2007 a group of volunteers was assigned the west wing of Block 9 in the administrative zone of the base. A non-profit association was founded, the building was renovated with a grant from the Flemish Community, aircraft and vehicles were restored, and the documentation centre sorted thousands of photos and documents. The museum officially opened on 20 January 2010.
The display tells the story of the airfield, which was laid out at the end of 1944 as the temporary British airfield B90, and of the 10th Wing that was later stationed there. At the museum stand, among others, an F-16 Falcon, an F-104 Starfighter, an F-84F Thunderstreak, an F-84E/G Thunderjet and a Fouga CM170R Magister. There are also vehicles such as a 1953 Willys jeep and a Jaguar saloon of the 31st Squadron.
