About the museum
The Lievensmuseum is dedicated to Constant Lievens (Moorslede 1856 – Leuven 1893), a Jesuit missionary who spread the faith in Chotanagpur in India. In 1995 the museum opened in the Bunderhoeve, the old farm that grew out of the Ten Bunderen monastery.
Until 2017 it remained there. It then moved to the Sint-Martinuskerk in the heart of Moorslede, where the renewed museum is set up in the left aisle and is freely accessible. In the right transept of the same church stands the Pater Lievensmemoriaal (Father Lievens memorial).
The museum tells the life and work of Lievens with photos, documents, objects, dioramas and film fragments. Visitors can also choose video clips. Besides Lievens, other figures are featured, such as Ferdinand Verbiest, Albrecht Rodenbach, Pater Desmet, Pater Damiaan and Mother Teresa. On the Markt in Moorslede, the equestrian statue of Father Lievens by sculptor Josué Dupon has stood since 1929.
