About the museum
Saint Michael’s Church is the historic heart of Roeselare, and its tower houses a remarkable museum about bells and carillons. Across several floors you get an overview of the history of bells and hear how the 49 bells of the carillon work together. The steady ticking of the mechanism guides you up to each next floor.
After 256 steps you emerge at the top of the tower, with a wide view far beyond Roeselare, as far as the Kemmelberg, the IJzer Tower and the Kluisberg. On church feast days and on special occasions the four large bells are still rung by hand.
Under guidance, visitors can play a little tune on the carillon themselves and ring a bell. You can also listen to the carillon music of Roeselare’s carillonneurs on the Visit Roeselare website.
