About the museum
The Montagne Saint-Pierre is a limestone massif between the Meuse and the Geer, on the doorstep of Visé, at the border between Wallonia, Flanders and the Netherlands. Its subsoil of Cretaceous rock, its microclimate and its chalk grasslands make it an exceptional natural site, protected as a nature reserve.
The Maison de la Montagne Saint-Pierre, located in Lanaye on the Place du Roi Albert, serves as the visitor and interpretation centre for the site. It is run by the municipality of Visé. Its permanent exhibition, entitled “ Un bijou naturel dans un écrin millénaire ” (a natural jewel in a millennial setting), spans four rooms. The first is devoted to the Cretaceous period, when the rock of the mountain was formed. The second looks at the first human activities: farmers, quarrymen and shepherds. The third presents the particular flora and fauna of the site, and the last explains the current efforts to protect nature.
The route is playful and interactive, with audiovisual projections. Every season, the House also hosts a temporary exhibition, and guided walks in the nature reserve, led by a guide from Natagora, depart from the House by registration.
