About the museum
The Musée d'Eben – Centre de recherches archéologique et folklorique, in Eben-Emael, presents spaces of everyday life in the past: an 18th-century farm, fully furnished, with its outbuildings (bread oven, forge, etc.). Upstairs, collections of local archaeology and a set of straw marquetry from the 17th to the 20th century are on display.
Small houses contain a grocery shop, a straw hatters' house-workshop and the crafts of the Geer valley, with the production of sun hats and the famous boater made of sewn straw braid. The museum is only open by reservation, admission is free, and a supplement may be charged for temporary exhibitions.
