About the museum

The MoMu – ModeMuseum Antwerpen, or MoMu for short, opened its first exhibition in 2002 in the historic Modenatie building on Nationalestraat. In the early 2000s the building was thoroughly renovated by architect Marie-José Van Hee. A later conversion by B-architecten led to the museum being reopened.

The collection has more than 38,000 pieces and focuses on Belgian designers and alumni of the fashion programme of the Antwerp Academy, alongside avant-garde fashion from home and abroad. The library holds more than 15,000 books. The museum wants to stimulate interest in fashion, make fashion accessible to everyone and use fashion as a lens on the world.

On the ground floor, the ongoing collection display “Mode uit de MoMu-collectie” shows a changing selection, from contemporary fashion to historical clothing, textiles and accessories, with a section on the development of Belgian fashion since the Antwerp Six and work by fashion students of the Antwerp Academy. In addition, the museum organises major exhibitions, workshops and activities for families and schools.
