About the museum

The Musée de la Haute-Sûre is on rue du Musée in Radelange, in the municipality of Martelange. It occupies a modest house dating from 1609 and was fitted out by the Cercle Ardenne et Gaume.

Martelange was a major centre of the slate industry from 1830 to 1947. The museum evokes this history through the home of a slate worker from the early 19th century, in a small local museum.

Three rooms are presented: the kitchen, the living room and the bedroom. Visitors see period furniture, everyday utensils and slate workers' tools, which recall the hard labour of the workers in the slate quarries of the Sûre valley. A virtual 3D tour is available online, on the municipality's website.
