About the museum
Since 1996, the Musée Saint-Rémy has occupied an annexe on the upper floor of the Saint-Rémy church in Cuesmes, a district of the city of Mons. The current church was inaugurated the same year: it replaced the 1850 building, which collapsed in 1986. Elements of the earlier churches, Romanesque and then Neoclassical, were preserved and integrated into the modern building.
The museum brings together about a hundred items from the parish’s heritage: liturgical vestments, a sunburst monstrance from 1706, a missal printed by Plantin in Antwerp in 1620, an altar stone from the old church dating from 1181, a 19th-century revolving tabernacle, statues and numerous objects of worship. The exhibition can be visited by appointment only.
