About the museum
The museum grew out of the initiative of beer enthusiasts and collectors. The association that runs it was founded in 1993, and the museum opened in March 1994 in Schaerbeek, a municipality that had about a dozen breweries at the beginning of the 20th century. It is housed in former workshops of a technical school near the Parc Josaphat and has a garden.
The collections bring together more than 2,000 Belgian beer bottles, thousands of glasses, brewing machines, cooperage tools, signs, trays and other advertising objects, as well as documents from vanished Brussels breweries. One room recreates an estaminet from the years 1900 to 1930, “Au Vieux Schaerbeek”.
The visit ends with a tasting, including the “Schaerbeekoise”, a beer brewed for the museum.
