About the museum
The Heemmuseum Bystervelt in Schelle was opened in 1969 by the local history society heemkring Scella. The museum is housed in a former 18th-century presbytery on Peperstraat. The name refers to a moated farmstead that once stood on the site of the present town hall and has since disappeared.
The collection consists of objects that residents of Schelle donated to the heemkring. Together they show village life in the past: the Trees Bazaar shop, a classroom from just before the Second World War and a fully furnished village café. The museum also holds a large collection of agricultural tools, a large part of which comes from the Waasland, and an interesting collection of old radios.
Individual visitors can visit the museum at set times; groups can visit on other days after reservation.
