About the museum
The Stedelijk Beiaardmuseum is housed in the tower of the Sint-Quintinuskathedraal on the Vismarkt in Hasselt. The museum explains the history of the tower and shows objects related to tower clocks, bells and carillons.
Among the highlights are a carillon keyboard from the 18th century and a tower clock from 1911 linked to a bell from 1899. The casting of bells is also explained. The carillon bells in the tower weigh more than 7.7 tonnes together, and the great bell weighs about 3.2 tonnes. The original 18th-century drum can also be seen.
The visit is conducted with a guide. You climb 168 steps: on the way, visitors can play small bells, play an old carillon and ring a bell. At the top, in the bell gallery, there is a view over Hasselt. The tower is managed by Het Stadsmus, the museum organisation of the city of Hasselt.
