About the museum
The museum of the history and museum association “Zwischen Venn und Schneifel” (ZVS) is located in the former railway station building of Sankt Vith, formerly the residence of the station master. It documents the history of the land between Venn and Schneifel in multilingual permanent exhibitions with panels, touchscreens, films and objects.
The historical route begins with the Celtic and Roman periods; on display are finds from burial mounds near Neundorf and Grüfflingen, as well as finds from the association’s excavations. Rooms follow on the Middle Ages and early modern period (castle era, Thirty Years’ War, Austrian period), on the French and Prussian periods with the themes of emigration and the First World War, and on the Belgian period from 1920 to 2015 with an interactive timeline.
In addition there are themed exhibitions: the history of the railway in the region, the church in the Eifel with sacred objects, and in the basement the exhibition on crafts, with the “Elektrophonium”, a total work of art by the artist Norbert Huppertz, as well as trades such as joiner, turner or shoemaker, a collection of Takenplatten, and a kitchen with a bakehouse. The exhibition occupies the ground floor, the basement and the first floor.
