About the museum
The museum has been operating since 1962 and deals with the material and intangible heritage of the Istrian peninsula. It holds about 8000 objects in ten collections, especially textiles, agricultural tools and objects of everyday use from Istrian villages from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The largest collection is that of traditional clothing: women’s and men’s clothing, headwear and footwear.
The museum is housed in Pazin Castle, which according to the description of the Tourist Board is the largest and best-preserved medieval fortress in Istria. It is first mentioned in written sources in 983. The Muzej grada Pazina (Pazin Town Museum) is also located in the castle.
