About the museum
The castle rises on the north side of the main square in Svetvinčenat and is the largest building in the town. The first fortification was built at the beginning of the 13th century. It took its present form in 1589, when Marino Grimani had it rebuilt after a fire, to designs by the Venetian architects Scamozzi and Campagna. It has three corner towers, a palace on the fourth corner, walls with walkways, a drawbridge and a portcullis. Inside are the courtyard, rooms for officers and soldiers, storerooms and an underground dungeon. Towards the end of the Second World War the castle burned down again.
The castle houses the Ferlin collection of old weapons, a multimedia exhibition on the history of the town and a tour of stations: the ground floor of the palace, the gallery, the courtyard, the drawbridge, the dungeon, the round and the square tower, and the chapel. The castle tour is included in the visit.
