About the museum
The Dům umění (House of Art) is housed in the Slavíkovský palác on Masarykovo náměstí in Znojmo, one of the most interesting Renaissance houses in the town centre, dating from the mid-16th century. The building belongs to the South Moravian Museum in Znojmo and has served gallery purposes since the mid-20th century.
The permanent exhibition Staré umění Znojemska (Old Art of the Znojmo Region) presents sacred Gothic and Baroque art from the museum’s collections, from the era of the last Přemyslids to the Enlightenment of the 18th century. The Gothic section culminates in the wooden Znojmo Madonna from the 1330s, attributed to the Master of the Michelská Madonna, and the oldest exhibit is the head of the so-called Znojmo Libuše from the last third of the 13th century.
The Baroque section focuses on sculptures and paintings by artists associated with the region, among them Jiří Antonín Heinz, Josef Leonard Weber and the Znojmo native Jan Michal Fissé. The Dům umění also serves as a space for short-term exhibitions.
