About the museum
Znojmo Castle forms, together with the Rotunda of St Catherine, a national cultural monument, a castle complex. It is now managed by the South Moravian Museum in Znojmo, which presents the history of the castle and of the whole region.
The castle's interiors present life in early modern society. Visitors will see historic furniture from the museum's collections, a gentlemen's salon with valuable objects of Oriental art, a ladies' salon with a Rococo mirror, and an Empire music salon with a piano from the Viennese workshop of Johann Ehrlich. Of interest is the Deblín Chapel, with ceiling paintings by Jan Michael Fisse and a restored Baroque altar with a pair of angels by the sculptor Jiří Antonín Heinz. Two rooms are dedicated to the Znojmo sculptor Hugo Lederer.
Panel displays created by students of the Brno University of Technology introduce the history of the castle complex, and there is a room dedicated to the Rotunda of St Catherine. On the first floor there are long-term exhibitions on the folk traditions of the Znojmo region and on cut glass from the Langer family firm in Šatov, near Znojmo, which was acquired as a complete collection in 2018.
