About the museum
The Gallery of Minerals is a private mineralogical museum that opened to the public in 2021. It belongs to Luboš Blaha, a collector who has devoted himself to stones since childhood. His first mineral, a small pyrite crystal, was found by the swimming pool in Dvůr Králové. After completing an apprenticeship in electrical engineering, and after 1989, he founded a wholesale company that supplies precious stones, minerals and products made from them to the Czech market.
He collected minerals throughout his life and in his youth visited almost all Czech mineral localities. The museum that grew out of these collections offers almost 2,000 m² of exhibition space and more than 6,000 exhibits in 135 illuminated display cases. By its own account, it is among the largest mineralogical museums in Europe in terms of exhibition space.
The indoor exhibition presents, for example, moldavites, a collection of Czech agates, a Fabergé egg and a lift set with roughly 320,000 garnets. Outside, in the summer months, an exhibition with an energy circle and a petrified forest is open, and visitors can try panning for gold and garnets. The museum also has a shop selling minerals, precious stones and jewellery, and a café.
