About the museum
The museum grew out of volunteer initiative: in 1987, under the auspices of the Czechoslovak Scientific and Technical Society, restoration began on the steam locomotive class 310.006, which was then moved into the unused roundhouse of the Jaroměř depot. The steam locomotive class 464.008 was also restored there and completed in 1992. The museum opened in 1996, initially in only four stalls of the roundhouse.
It gradually expanded as České dráhy (Czech Railways) reduced operations at the depot: first one more stall was added, and later the entire roundhouse building. When České dráhy ended operations at the Jaroměř machine station in 2004, an association leased the rest of the engine shed site. Today most of the site belongs to the museum and is gradually being restored to its appearance at the beginning of the 20th century. The engine shed has served steam operations since 1901.
The museum is run by the Společnost železniční výtopna Jaroměř, z. s., a non-profit association whose activities are largely carried out by volunteers. The site is managed by the Železniční muzeum Jaroměř, z. s. The collection includes steam and diesel locomotives, for example the T211 class (“Bobíci”), passenger and freight carriages and signals. The famous steam locomotive Conrad Vorlauf and locomotive 310.006 are no longer in the museum. During the season the museum runs nostalgic trips.
